Car 2 is the second selectable car in San Francisco Rush 2049. It has four paintjobs available from the start, and three paintjobs that are unlocked by setting fast solo race times with Phantom Photon (No Drones) turned on. Paintjobs unlocked for this car are on a per-track basis and have to be earned on each track separately. It is the only vehicle to not have a proper name when referred to on the website.

Dusk is the second new track added to San Francisco Rush 2049: Tournament Edition and is arguably the most difficult track in the whole game. Getting a good race time requires nearly perfect driving on all three laps as many elements of the track only line up at specific times, and making one mistake can ruin the timing for the later shortcuts. Both this track and Dawn were originally from the console versions, but were revamped and brought back to the arcade. This track is the only one in all versions to receive a revised difficulty indication on the track selection screen; In TE it was stated to be Advanced difficulty, but in SE it was increased to Extreme difficulty, though the track remains the same between versions.

Track Layout
Starting at the Golden Gate Bridge like Track 1 of San Francisco Rush, the track leads players to some wide corners around Presidio that leads to Forest Hill. These jumps lead to Glen Park's windy corners and eventually the subway located on Bernal Heights. This subway is only open on laps 1 and 3, so on lap 2 players will need to maneuver through Bernal Height's technical turns. Both paths lead to Noe Valley with a very difficult corner to jump at high speeds. Finally, the finish line is right on the edge of Eureka Valley.

Fast Times Strategy
Special Edition
For lap 1, stay on the main road until the two-loop shortcut. After this shortcut, stick to the main road again, including the entirety of Glen Park. Upon Arrival at Bernal Heights, head straight into the Metro station. Take a right while avoiding oncoming trains, and hug the wall on the right side. Exit the metro station by staying to the right side of the wall while maintaining a straight direction. Slow down just a bit while in the air then after landing, turn left slightly at full speed to take a large jump over hill, using the clutch for extra airtime if needed. at the beginning of Eureka valley, take the right side entrance into a large tunnel with a fan. Inside this tunnel, follow the green arrows to perform a corkscrew shortcut to exit and complete lap 1.

On lap 2, take the shortcut with two loops once again, though this time aim for a tunnel on either the left or right side of the road upon exit. Drive through either tunnel at full speed, and aim for a large suspended platform above the main road in the center. Avoid the initial set of piston obstacles, then drive into a long pipe shortcut. This pipe shortcut starts with a left turn and a descent shortly after. Drive along the sides of the wall at full speed with minimal steering corrections to clear this section first. After descending is large left bend, followed by a large right bend, and an exit. After exiting, follow the main road to complete the second lap.

On lap 3, perform a similar set of shortcuts as done in lap 1, with the exception of the large tunnel shortcut at the end.

Events
* The train station shortcut opens and closes on a timer, with the shortcut being open on laps 1 and 3 if making good time. The barrier starts out open, and closes at 1:40, then reopens at 3:20. It continues to alternate between closing and opening every 100 seconds.
* Trains inside the train station move forward and back at varying speeds, serving as obstacles.
* At the corner of Noe Valley and Eureka Valley near the end of lap 1, there is an opening to the right side that provides an alternate path through a fan and 360° corkscrew out onto the road of Presidio. This barrier opens up at 1:00 and permanently closes at 2:30.
* At the bottom of Forest Hill, there is a set of small barriers on the far left and right sides of the road on lap 2. This provides a jump to the upper platform with the moving platforms and 360° tunnel above Glen Park. These barriers are open on all even laps, and closed on all odd laps.
</div>
</div>
Sunset is the third track of San Francisco Rush 2049 (Arcade). It is a medium length track that has the player drive on the environment rather than the road in some locations. Out of the original five tracks, this is one of three advanced tracks and features one of the longest shortcuts in the game, The Mining Cave. It also includes the largest jump in the game, Strawberry Hill, which prints the player's peak of the jump to the HUD briefly. This track would later be altered and repurposed for the home ports under the name 'Civic.' These changes include an additional shortcut above a building that takes the player near the mining cave, and the removal of a large stunt area near the start of the race.

Track Layout
Sunset begins at the bottom 19th avenue, and has the player navigating around Goldengate Park until finally reaching Geary Boulevard. From here it is a straight through Japantown with several hills that give the player air. Optional paths left or right of Geary may be utilized to save time. Afterward, a series of two banked left bends on Gough street take the player to Twin Peaks, where the player must decide to continue driving forward or take the optional left path. Near the top of the Ascent is Portola road; a bending but flat road that leads to a huge jump with a narrow short turn afterward. From there, the player will arrive to the top of 19th avenue, which will take the player right back to the Finish line to end the lap.

Fast Times Strategy
Special Edition
For the first two laps, take the Strawberry Hill jump, and take the blue banked shortcut at the end of Japantown. Take the left blocked-off road at the start of twin peaks, and go over the gap. Then while staying on the right side of the road, drive through or near the second to last tree to take a very large jump. From here finish the race normally by ignoring both 19th Avenue shortcuts and instead drive down the road, ending the lap by driving back on the dirt road to take another Strawberry Hill jump.

On the third lap, drive like the previous two right up until twin peaks. Take the blocked-off road onto the front of the large hill, and drop into the mineshaft. Drive on this road, avoiding obstacles such as the large fans and falling rocks. Complete a large jump, then continue driving down the road and avoiding another large fan to finish the race.
Coin Locations
Golden Gate Park - 16 Coins
*7 coins are can be found directly underneath a small blue bridge near the start of the race. This area is accessible by taking a right turn immediately after exiting the bridge and driving down a dirt ramp.
*9 coins in a line are placed behind a fence blocking off the Golden Gate Halfpipe. This fence can be opened by driving over the STV logo laying behind the line of 7 coins, underneath the bridge.
Golden Gate Halfpipe - 31 Coins
*7 coins are in a straight line at the very bottom of the half pipe.
*11 coins can be found near the top on the life side of the pipe; albeit very far apart from each other. Use First person view to make collecting these coins easier.
*12 coins are placed on the right side of the pipe near the top. Immediately climb the pip at the entrance to the Golden Gate Halfpipe and stay toward the top.
*1 coin at a very high point on the right side toward the back. Use the Orange arrow ramp and aim for the middle of the pink "8-way Racing" Billboard. The coin is near the center of the large pink graphic.
Geary - 5 Coins
*3 coins in a line can be found in between buildings at the entrance of Geary. Instead of driving through Park Presidio, take the path in between the buildings.
*2 more coins in a line are placed to the right of the previous 3, behind the buildings on the right side of the line of 3 coins.
Japantown - 4 Coins
*1 coin is tucked away behind a wall next to the first set of train tracks. Stay on the higher right side road and take the first right onto the tracks to find this coin.
*3 coins can be found in a line after driving across an overpass. To find the entrance, drive slowly on the right side of the road (close to where the first coin is.) follow that road until you get to a small concrete ramp. Take a slow left 180 degree turn up the ramp to drive across the overpass to find a small line of coins on the other side.
St. Mary's - 2 Coins
*1 coin can be found on the front right side of the building, in between two wide columns.
*1 coin is on the roof of the building in the back to the right. To get here, drive up the ramping curb on the right side of the main road with medium speed, then drive around the roof to find the coin.
Twin Peaks - 9 Coins
*1 on top of a building with a platform roof. Access this area by staying on the normal path once you reach the fork, then take a slow left turn immediately after the dirt patch. Then, drive around the building on the cement to find this coin.
*8 coins inside of a large pool of water on the right side of Twin Peaks. To get here, use the natural ramp in between the two paths at the bottom of Twin Peaks. Performing this jump is a bit tricky and may require a few tries.

Portola - 7 Coins
*6 coins line the left side of the Tunnel shortcut underneath the Satalite. To get here, take the detour at the start of Twin Peak and drive into the tunnel on the left side once at the top near the Satalite.
19th Avenue - 10 Coins
Night is the final track of San Francisco Rush 2049 (Arcade), available only by accumulating 50 miles on a Team Rush account or by holding the 'Music' button. Out of the original five tracks, it is the longest and only one with an Extreme difficulty. Night is sprawling with many paths and 90° turns through the Metro area, many of which feature hidden coins. Night also has the largest vertical climb shortcut. This shortcut brings about additional platforming if drivers wish to seek out the coins hidden on the various rooftops. Cable cars are present on numerous streets to block the paths of drivers on long straights and around sharp corners.

Track Layout
The race starts on Columbus Avenue with a hard right turn that passes several notable crossroads, including Lombard. After some airtime comes a left turn and then a choice of three different roads on the right side, quickest being the turn onto Powell street. Enter California Street by turning right at any of the previous roads, then make another right onto Laguna street by either sticking to the main road, or cutting through Lafayette Park. Drive down this road, then make a left turn long the quarter pipe to get onto Fillmore Street; a long stretch with a second road running on above the ground road. At the end Fillmore street is a fire engine and mech, where drivers must turn right to drive through The Duboce Triangle and eventually get onto 13th street. Make a left turn and head all the way down the Metro along Bryant street, then take another left to drive through the substructure of the Oakland Bridge and briefly drive along the Marina. Take another left to enter The Embarcadero, then right along another quarter pipe. Finally, take a quick left onto New Montgomery back to Columbus Avenue to end the race.

Fast Times Strategy
Special Edition
All three laps are done the same. At the start of the race, make a quick right turn an stay on the right side of the road. Slow down just a bit to not overdo the jump on Hyde. Make a right turn then take the first left turn onto Powell and cut across the pavement onto California. Next, take a right to drive through the blue building and cut across the grass to get onto Laguna. Continue through the quarter pipe normally, then drive onto one of the above side ledges on Fillmore. Continue along the track as normal, and do not turn left onto the Atari jump on Bryant. Instead, closeout the lap by not taking anymore shortcuts. At the Marina section, veer off to the left on Embarcadero for an easier left turn onto New Montgomery. Continue passed the quarter pipe and head toward Columbia to complete the lap.
</div>
</div>
Sunset is the third track in Rush 2049 (CoinOp.) This track is one of Three (5 in TE, 4 in SE) advanced tracks, and features one of the longest shortcuts introduced in Rush 2049: The Mining cave, as well as the largest jump in the game, Strawberry Hill; which prints the players highest point of the jump to the HUD briefly. It is a medium length track that has the player drive on the environment rather than the road in some locations. This track would later be altered and repurposed for the Home ports of Rush 2049, and given the name 'Civic.' These changes include an additional shortcut above a building that takes the player near the mining cave, and the removal of a large stunt area near the start of the race.

<youtube>UhUF2lQrWzU</youtube>

*1 coin behind a building at the top of Twin Peaks. To find this one, take the detour at the start of the twin peaks ascent. Near the Satalite will be two buildings on the right, drive into the grass around the second building (its rounder than the first building,) to find this coin in a very small crevice behind the building.
*6 coins line the left side of the Tunnel shortcut underneath the Satalite. To get here, take the detour at the start of Twin Peak and drive into the tunnel on the left side once at the top near the Satalite.
19th Avenue - 10 Coins
*10 coins in a line sit above 19th Avenue on the right side. Near the top of the road, drive to the right along a ledge. Driving passed the line will lead to a green image of man's head.
*6 coins in a line can be found behind the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Building, in the middle of 19th Avenue on the left.
*10 coins in a line can be collected by immediately driving to the left at the start of the race and driving into the center of the turquoise building.. These coins can also be collected conventionally by completing the Mining Cave shortcut that can be found at the top of Twin Peaks.
19th Avenue - Unobtainable Coin
For a more in-depth look at San Francisco Rush 2049's hardware specs, see Arcade Hardware.

San Francisco Rush 2049 would also see a release on September 6th 2000 for the 5th generation console Nintendo 64 and the 6th generation console Sega Dreamcast. These releases were handled by Ed Logg his development team, previously responsible for San Francisco Rush and Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA, both for Nintendo 64. These version are not direct ports of the arcade version, rather they are built on the driving model established in Rush 2. The home release of Rush 2049 introduced wings as a brand new driving mechanic, and the additions of the Stunt and Battle modes. For additional info on the home releases see San Francisco Rush 2049 (Console).

Gameplay
Like its previous entries, San Francisco Rush 2049 can be played Solo or against other drivers in head-to-head races. When playing solo, drivers can choose between a standard race against 7 drones, or their own ghosts to compete for the best time.

Returning from the original San Francisco Rush is the difficulty-tiered handling model, this time however handling can be changed per car. Normal handling gives the driver the most control out of the options, however it also has to lowest top speed. If the driver wishes to have a faster drivetrain, they will have to sacrifice control by selecting Advanced, or Extreme handling.

Exploration is more important than ever in this San Francisco Rush 2049. Locating all of the hidden shortcuts beforehand ensures that drivers will have the competitive edge needed to win. In addition, drivers can also find hidden Gold Coins giving them access to exclusive racing liveries.

Tracks
"3 new tracks plus two hidden tracks with dynamic track elements that change on each lap. Outrageous, layered shortcuts and super stunts!"

The tracks will have you racing through various districts of San Francisco. Many parts of the city have been given a new futuristic look, while some of the more historic locations have remained untouched.

Along the way, drivers may come across hidden shortcuts when veering off the race course. If driven optimally, shortcuts can provide a competitive advantage that may be just enough to close the gap between driver and 1st place.

Even further off the beaten path, drivers may come across hidden gold coins. There are 100 gold coins hidden throughout each track, and drivers willing to find them will get rewarded along the way.

Cars
"The year 2049 has produced astonishing breakthroughs in automotive design and functionality. Car selection ranges from the most conceptual to practical, technological to retro classical."

Players can choose one from six futuristic racing vehicles (and one unlockable 70s-era muscle car.) There are no inherent advantages to picking one car over another, so players can choose any car they prefer when facing the competition. Pressing View 3 on the car select menu allows players to choose their desired handling model: Normal is suitable for new player; Advanced for those who have learned the roads; and Extreme, for those seeking the ultimate challenge.

Pressing View 1 will cycle paintjobs for every car. Like the cars themselves, paintjobs offer no competitive advantage and are a purely cosmetic choice.

After registering for Team Rush, players become eligible to unlock an additional car and paintjobs. The unlock conditions vary depending on the car, with some being a lot harder to earn than others. Players who seek to complete the game will have to earn an additional 23 paintjobs (counting the first 70s cuda unlock) in order to complete their save.
San Francisco Rush 2049: Tournament Edition is an upgrade to San Francisco Rush 2049 developed by Midway Games West Inc. It was intended to allow players to compete against each other remotely on the Midway Tournament Network, but was shuttered within a year. A modified version of the hard drive image exists, allowing access to the two extra tracks without being connected to MTN. However, this version does not allow access to any new cars. This hard drive image was presumably handed out to the few arcades allowed to keep TE after MTN shut down, as the extra content would not be accessible anymore without modification.

Differences from original 2049
* Four new vehicles and two new tracks (Dawn and Dusk) are available for tournament play only.
* Driving physics are tweaked to make Extreme handling harder and closer to Rush The Rock.
* The time limit for account creation was increased. Original 2049 gives 15 seconds to enter your new account's PIN, while TE adjusts it to 90 seconds to give the player enough time to enter their phone number and full name, both of which were required to receive prizes from MTN. The 90 second timer was left unchanged in SE.
* Abort abuse skips were patched, preventing track skips and even punishing fast players sometimes by sending the player backwards on the track if they abort.
* A player can now sign out of an account and sign back in while selecting a track, car, or transmission.
* The Just Play/Join Team Rush screen when starting a new game was replaced with choosing between original Rush 2049 or Tournament mode. Without connection to the MTN servers, this screen is completely absent and the game goes to the track selection immediately, much like SE. The background design changes when switching between options.
** Continuing as a Team Rush member is still possible on credit play. By signing in on the attract screen, the game will start signed in, and subsequent plays will automatically log in until the credits in the machine are depleted.
2049TE_SELECT.png|Tournament Mode
</gallery>

* The wide futuristic font used for the timer and street names was replaced with a more generic font. The speedometer design was also changed.
* The race timer now displays thousandths of times, instead of just hundredths. At the end of each lap, it also shows the time difference between the current lap and the first place time of the track.
* The Atari logo attract animation was modified, showing the Midway logo instead, and cutting off before the voice can say "Atari Games". By holding the Music button, it can still be heard.
* The attract mode has extra sequences regarding tournaments, including currently running tournaments, advertisement videos of MTN, and how to sign up.
* During tournament play, a MTN watermark is placed in the bottom left corner of the screen.
* A dot matrix LED sign has been placed on the top of the marquee, showing tournament information.
* A minus symbol is displayed on the speedometer when driving in reverse.

Test Locations
Based on information found on the hard drive, TE was tested at the following locations:
* Starbase Arcade in San Rafael, CA
* Special Effects Arcade in Scotts Valley, CA
* Friar Tuck's Game Room in Calumet City, IL
* Golfland USA in Sunnyvale, CA
* Paddock Bowl in Pacheco, CA
* Diversions Game Room in San Antonio, TX
* Gala North in Carol Stream, IL

San Francisco Rush 2049: Special Edition is a modified version of Tournament Edition that was released as both an upgrade kit and standalone machine by Betson Enterprises in 2003. It features all of changes that TE made to the original game with the MTN content removed. As the two versions are very similar, a SE security PIC will work for running TE. Conversely, a TE boot ROM will run SE as well, but not the other way around. Special Edition is also the only version of an arcade Rush to also be released in an upright machine as well as the regular sitdown machine.

Differences from Tournament Edition
* Midway Tournament Network references and information, such as the attract mode sequences and test menu options for connecting to the servers, are removed.
* Track 6 and 7 are unlocked for solo and linked play, instead of being locked behind tournament play.
* Track 7: Dusk is labeled as Advanced difficulty in TE, but Extreme difficulty in SE.
* When the attract mode shows both new tracks with the leaderboards, a "Special Edition" graphic replaces "Fast Times" at the top.
* The "Tournament Edition Support Team" credits image in the attract mode has been replaced with a similar "Special Edition Support Team" image.
* Tournament exclusive cars are usable outside of tournament play. 3 of the 4 cars are immediately available for play on a new Team Rush account.
* The LED sign test in the test menu is unavailable, however the sign might still work (unverified).
</div>
</div>

Dawn is the first new track added to San Francisco Rush 2049: Tournament Edition, and is one of the most difficult tracks to race. Unlike the other tracks, it features a sequential order of shortcuts that players must make available by driving over switches that open the next shortcut. Because of this, the three laps needed for an optimal fast time are all driven differently from one another, and failing to trigger a switch will prevent the player from accessing the rest of the shortcuts. The coin placement is also different from most tracks, in that players do not have to explore the way they have for the previous tracks, but instead need to execute each shortcut correctly to obtain all 100 coins.

The track starts on a hill on Parkmerced, followed by a winding road that takes the driver through Stonestown Mall. It then continues passed several residential districts; Saint Francis Wood, and Diamond Heights. After Noe Valley, is a quick right turn that takes the driver onto a bridge directly over Mission bay. Drivers must then decide which of the two roads on Bay View, that later converge right before Potrero Hill. Passed Potrero Hill is a large right turn, followed by a left turn along Portola. Nearing the end of the lap is Excalibur (not a real location in San Francisco,) followed by a drive through Inglewood that takes the driver directly to the finish line.
Fast Times Strategy
Special Edition
On lap 1's race start, stick to the road as much as possible. After the first right turn, cut across the concrete and take the orange and blue ramp at the end of a dirt trail. Then, land diagonally inside of a building and drive over another small ramp. Drive over the STV logo at the end of the narrow parking lot. Cut across the grass on the corner of the right turn and drive over the bridge. veer to the right slightly and to go over another ramp and aim a bit to the right to land on the rooftop of a building. From here drive forward; it will lead to leaping over the gap of two buildings and heading down a ramp, passed the ramp is another STV logo. Drive through it and the banked tunnel, drive without taking further shortcuts until lap 2.

On lap 2, drive normally until you get to the first right turn, veer to the right to enter a large train station with rounded walls. Drive up the rounded walls toward the left
to perform a loop and exit the building along a suspended platform that goes over the main road. At the end of this platform is a building with a gap, drive through the gap to enter the building and toggle the STV switch. After exiting that building, align with the concrete on the left side of the road, and veer a bit toward the right, driving passed the animated arrow sign pointed right. Land on the narrow green platform, then onto the much larger one. Make a right and take the ramp, driving over another STV logo. After landing, perform similar maneuvers to the previous lap for driving into the banked tunnel; Instead of driving down a a ramp to get to the tunnel, drive slightly to the right of the ramp to drive through a pillar, then to the left onto another building before making it down toward the banked tunnel. Heading toward Excalibur, turn slightly right to position onto rooftops that lead toward a sewer. Drive into the sewer, and upon exiting drive over the STV logo on the ground. After exiting the sewer, drive toward the raised left part of the dirt ramp at the end.

For lap 3, land onto the raised train rails after taking the dirt ramp jump in lap 2. While up here, take a right to enter and Aquarium. After landing inside, drive over the STV logo and continue straight. Drive on the main road until the second Checkpoint, the make a slight right turn into a now open area cuts a cross a large part of the track. Drive into this area by taking a jump that goes over a dock and land onto a large green boat in the water. After landing on the boat, turn to the right to land back on the main track. Finish the race by following the main road.
</div>

The current record run in Team Rush, by Cobra427:

*10 coins along the back wall of the tunnel at race start
Golden Gate Bridge - 4 Coins
*1 coin on the right side entrance to the shortcut on the right side of the bridge
*1 coin on the roof of the left side of the tollgate, after exiting shortcut
*14 coins on platform above the pipe shortcut entrance. Get to this platform by driving on top of the moving pistons.
*1 coin at the entrance to the pipe shortcut
*1 coin on the floor of the pipe, in the middle of the descent section
*2 coins along the wall at the apex of the first left bend
*2 coins along the wall at the apex of the first right bend
Glen Park - 3 Coins
*3 coins at the exit of the pipe shortcut
Bernal Heights - 8 Coins
*4 coins at the back of the large train station shortcut
Noe Valley - 12 Coins
*12 coins suspended above a trainyard
Eureka Valley - 3 Coins
*2 coins at the very top of the large tunnel shortcut at the entrance
*1 coin at the bottom center of the large tunnel shortcut near the fan blades
Eureka valley - Unobtainable Coin
*Inside the Palace of Fine Arts on the right side of the finish line
Timed/Switch Events
* The subway station is only open on laps 1 and 3. Lap 2 requires the normal path through Bernal Heights to be taken. The station door closes at X:XX and reopens at X:XX.
* The subway trains move back and forth at varying speeds, most of the time blocking you from crossing the tracks. The optimal timing to drive across the tracks assumes close to perfect racing for the subway being accessible on laps 1 and 3. A very slow moving train starts to cross the closest track at around 1:19 into the race, and takes a very long time to clear the path. With Advanced handling, it is required to briefly slow down as there is a train that will be in the way on lap 3. It is possible to beat the train, but it requires perfect driving. It is much easier to pass it with Extreme handling, as the extra speed gives enough time.
* At the corner of Noe Valley and Eureka Valley near the end of lap 1, there is an opening to the right side that provides an alternate path through a fan and 360° corkscrew out onto the road of Presidio. This wall opens up at X:XX and closes at X:XX.
* At the bottom of Forest Hill, there is a door that opens up on the very right for lap 2. This provides a jump to the upper platform with the moving platforms and 360° tunnel above Glen Park. This door opens at X:XX and closes at X:XX, and is not accessible on laps 1 and 3.
-The San Francisco Rush 2049 Website

San Francisco Rush 2049 is the final Rush game released on Arcade and 5th generation systems, it is also Atari Games' last developed game. It features 4 brand new futuristic tracks, as well as a reimagining of The Rock from San Francisco Rush The Rock: Alcatraz Edition. For the first time, players are able to record data with a save system called Team Rush. This allows players to record lap and race times, mileage, and unlock new cars and tracks.

San Francisco Rush 2049 would later receive an update a year later for select locations called San Francisco Rush 2049: Tournament Edition, which brings the additions of Tournament Mode, two new tracks designed by Rush 2 and Rush 2049 home port developers, and four new cars.

Release
San Francisco Rush 2049 released for Arcades on June 15th. 1999. It shipped as single sit-down cabinets, however are commonly found as two or more units for multiplayer races. It includes a 4-speed shifter and Atari's proprietary force-feedback steering. As a step up from the original San Francisco Rush release, 2049 ships with a 27" VGA monitor, 5-channel surround sound, and has the capability to run at 60 frames-per-second during gameplay.

Tournament Edition
GameInfoBox

* Four new vehicles and two new tracks are available for tournament play only.

</gallery>

}}

The Rocket is the ultimate vehicle in Rush 2, unlocked only by finishing 1st place overall in a Circuit. It has the highest speed and acceleration of any car in the game, however it is very narrow and falls over easily, making it best for straight-line speed. It is the only car in the series with a thrust-powered engine, and as such can accelerate mid-air.

Downsides of the Rocket include its poor handling, weak brakes, and low durability. The Rocket will explode instantly if its roof makes contact with any part of the environment.

The Rocket has a texture error, with its windshield being mapped to use the color defined by the vehicle's Accent Color. This vehicle can not be painted with Stripes.

The Rocket, Hot Rod and Formula are the only cars in Rush 2 that have a Triangular Shadow.

Trivia: The Rocket can decelerate faster by throttling in reverse while holding the brakes. Similarly, it can decelerate mid-air by throttling in reverse.

Trivia: The Rocket is the only vehicle in the series to emit particles. These particles disappear when the player enters the Bumper or Hood views. This disappearance is visible when returning to the Far or Near Chase views as well as on Player 2's screen in Multiplayer.
The Prototype bears a striking resemblance to the unreleased 1995 Ford GT90.
</div>
</div>
Dusk is the second new track added to Tournament Edition, and is arguably the most difficult track in the whole game. Getting a good time requires near perfect driving on all three laps as many elements of the track only position correctly for perfect driving, and making one mistake can ruin everything else. Both this track and Dawn were originally from the console versions, but were revamped and brought back to the arcade. This track is the only one in all versions to receieve a revised difficulty indication on the track selection screen; In TE it was stated to be Advanced difficulty, but in SE it was increased to Extreme difficulty, though the track remained the exact same.

The current record run in Team Rush, by Cobra427:
The Nintendo 64 port was released in 1997 shortly after San Francisco Rush The Rock: Alcatraz Edition appeared in arcades. Aside from an unfinished version of The Rock that is only available after inputting a cheat, it featured the new cars and tracks that Rush The Rock added, along with other additions such as split-screen multiplayer, a circuit mode, and reverse track racing. Two unique Special cars can also be unlocked by finding keys in the tracks hidden out of sight or out of reach except with specific jumps taken correctly.

While the gameplay is faithful to the original arcade game, the HUD uses a black and yellow theme and the main menu uses a brushed steel theme designed for the console platform. The audio is also slightly worse due to needing to fit on a cartridge with only 8 megabytes of capacity versus a 1.2 GB hard drive.

Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA, a Nintendo 64 exclusive sequel would be released in 1998 with all new content not featured in the arcade versions as well as a finished version of The Rock track.

The PlayStation port was released a few years later in 1998 by Climax Entertainment. Unlike the Nintendo 64 port, the content of this version is based off the original arcade release, with none of the Rush the Rock content. It features the three original tracks plus an additional original track, the eight original cars plus a number of new secret vehicles, and four original songs. It also features weather effects and play modes not found in the other versions.

Despite the HUD and vehicle selection menu being more accurate to the arcade, the physics differ greatly from the Nintendo 64 port and the arcade original, primarily in its heavy gravity. This, along with other factors such as blocky graphics and the changed soundtrack makes it considered a poor port by critics and general Rush fans.

Game Boy Color
A port of San Francisco Rush was slated for release on the Game Boy Color in 1996 by Digital Eclipse, but it would not be dumped online until 2022.

</div>
</div>
Night is the final Track of Rush 2049, available only by accumulating 50 miles on a Team Rush account, or holding the 'Music' button. It is the longest track out of the 5 and is the only one with an Extreme difficulty. Unlike most tracks, Night is sprawling with many roads, many of which being the locations to hidden coins. Night also has the largest vertical climb shortcut. This shortcut brings about additional platforming if drivers wish to seek out the coins hidden on the various rooftops.

Track Layout
Night is a very large track that has a lot of sprawling roads that take Drivers throughout the Metro of San Francisco.

</div>
</div>
The Rock is the only returning track in San Francisco Rush 2049. Following its debut in San Francisco Rush the Rock: Alcatraz Edition, this rendition takes place after sunset, with a new starting position, terrain changes, and new shortcut near the shoreline. As with all Rush 2049 tracks, player can now collect coins hidden throughout the track, which was not possible in Rush The Rock.

Track Layout
The race starts behind a large patch of dirt road underneath a corkscrew loop shortcut; drivers are given the choice to take either path. After the first section, the road branchs into a higher and lower left bend that takes drivers to the Barracks and Dock section. This section has a long stretch of road, as well as a high and low shortcut on the left and right sides respectively. Once all of the paths meet up, drivers will take a banked right turn above water, that will take them above the island. another long stretch of road follows, with the choice to take a dark sewer shortcut on the right. If that shortcut is not taken however, drivers have to make a hard left turn shortly after, which takes the driver to a large jump over the prison. After the jump, the race concludes with two banked left turns that take the driver to the starting line.

Fast Times Strategy
Special Edition
All three laps are ideally ran identically. At the start of the race, take the corkscrew on the left side of the road, then take the upper path that leads to a jump when approaching the docks. Drive on the road until approaching the tunnel on the left side of the road, that runs underneath the prison. Drive into the tunnel and perform the dome stunt at the end of the tunnel. Drive straight into it, then downshift into third gear once the car hits the wall (listen for the collision noise,) and drive right. This is best done by driving on the outside of the green arrows (left side,) rather than directly following them. If done correctly there should be hardly any speed loss. Continue down the tunnel on the right side, then slow down the car right before the exit to mitigate jump velocity and lost speed. Continue down the road by turning left, and finish the lap. Repeat by taking the corkscrew once again.

The current record run in Team Rush, by Cobra427:
<youtube>UjSswa11Zcg</youtube>
Coin Locations
The Rock does not have a location tracker on the bottom left when playing. The coins are listed in approximate order from the starting line.

Corkscrew - 20 coins
*20 coins in a straight line from the start of the corkscrew shortcut until the end.

Barracks - 20 coins
*7 coins in a triangular formation behind the barracks on ground-level.
*7 coins tucked behind a wall on the second Barracks rooftop. Take the upper road and veer to the left to drive on top of the Barracks. Drive passed the 3 yellow arrow signs and drop down to the next rooftop. From here, turn around to find the coins in a line against the barracks wall.
*6 coins in a line on the second barracks rooftop, right after the dropping down the first rooftop.

The Docks - 8 coins
*7 coins in a line on the right side shortly after entering the Docks shortcut.
*1 coin in at the very end of the docks shortcut.

Prison - 32 coins
*5 coins in a line at the very end of The Lighthouse Loop on the right side of the prison, ground floor.
*10 coins in a line behind the wall of cells on the right visible after taking loop, ground floor.
*1 coin in the back right corner of the prison, ground floor.
*8 coins in a line behind the set of vents on the right side, rooftop.
*8 coins in a line behind the further set of vents on the left side, rooftop.

Sewer Shortcut - 20 coins
*1 coin halfway into the entrance to the tunnel shortcut.
*6 coins in a line at the base of the lightbulb-shaped section of the shortcut.
*10 coins in a line along the left wall after turning around from the lightbulb-shaped section.
*3 coins in a stacked line at the very end of the tunnel shortcut.
